The IET Innovation Awards, held in London on Wednesday night, celebrated the products, technologies and processes that lead the way in engineering innovation.

The collaboration between the University and Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery Ltd’s Training dept, R&D and Graduate recruitment which has led to the new School of Engineering based at the University’s Brayford campus, was one of just five projects shortlisted for the Team award.

Head of the School of Engineering, Professor Paul Stewart, said: “We are all delighted by the recognition we are beginning to get at both national and international level for the innovation and novelty which both sides of this collaboration have developed. The Siemens – University of Lincoln collaboration is now being perceived as a model of best practice in both academia and industry.

“We have just completed our first year of operation, and feel we have made outstanding achievements already, across teaching, research and enterprise. Both organisations in this venture are really excited about the potential which we are unlocking.”

The Awards, supported by the department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), were judged by engineering experts. They recognise the depth and breadth of innovative work being carried out across all areas of engineering and technology. Celebrity guest Suzi Perry, well-known for co-hosting Five’s Gadget Show, presented the awards.
