A comedy sketch show created by student filmmakers from the University of Lincoln has won a coveted national award.

Best Friends That Love Each Other was declared the winner of the Entertainment category at the Royal Television Society National Student Awards.

The film, by Media Production graduates Alex Holland, Michael Henry, Stuart Almond and Daryll Gregory, is a series of well-crafted comedy sketches featuring acclaimed performances by each of the students. The RTS judges called it "an ambitious project that was hugely impressive and revealed massive potential in both the on and off screen talent".

Alex, Michael, Stuart and Daryll, who graduated from Lincoln in summer 2009, had already won the Entertainment category at the RTS Regional Awards in October. Their film was then shortlisted for the national final, held at the Barbican Centre, London, on Friday.

The team attended the national awards ceremony with Brian Hall, senior lecturer in the Lincoln School of Media, who supervised the project.

Stuart said they had been 'overwhelmed' just to make it through to the national award and were stunned when their film was named as the winner.

He said: "When you are making a film, especially comedy, you never know how it's going to be received. I have been in the room as various people have watched it for the first time. Different people laugh at different things, so there seems to be something in there for everyone. It's great that it's been so well received."

Dr Sarah Barrow, Head of the Lincoln School of Media, said: "We are thrilled that Alex, Stuart, Michael and Daryll, recent graduates of the Lincoln School of Media, have received this richly deserved national recognition for their work. We're sure that, like so many of our graduates, they will go on to greater things and we look forward to hearing about their future achievements."
