University wins prestigious commercial contract (12 February 2008)

The University of Lincoln School of Architecture has won a new contract as part of its increasing portfolio of research and consultancy work. The School will use its expertise to help put together a comprehensive overview of the future development for Fylde borough in Lancashire.

Fylde council has appointed a consortium of businesses to carry out a Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment. Other partners include Lincoln-based Land and Environmental consultants Halletec Associates, and Staffordshire-based planning and development specialists Hawksmoor. The project will identify development sites throughout the borough, assess their viability and identify if and when they are likely to come forward for development.

Senior Academic in the School of Architecture Derek Cottrell said: “This collaboration is part of a rapidly expanding area of research and consultancy activities which the University is undertaking with various commercial partners. These activities will exceed £5 million this year.”

Neil Boughey of Halletec Associates adds: “This has been quite a coup for this company and our partners at Hawksmoor and the University of Lincoln. It shows that SME consultancies can win prestige tenders like this one through smart partnership and consortium building and through offering innovative and cost competitive methodologies”
