17th October 2006

Staff and students at Riseholme Park will have three reasons to celebrate at a special event on Thursday (19th October).

The event will be an opportunity to launch Riseholme College, to officially open the refurbished conference centre and to celebrate Riseholme’s new status as a Centre of Vocational Excellence.

Riseholme College is the brand under which the University of Lincoln now offers further education (post-16) courses, short courses, foundation degrees and bespoke courses in land-based and food studies.

The Learning and Skills Council awarded Riseholme Park CoVE status in April last year. Since then staff at the college have been working towards achieving their first-year CoVE targets as formal CoVE recognition is not given until the targets are met.

Roger Begy, Chairman of the Lincolnshire and Rutland Learning and Skills Council, will present a special CoVE plaque to Professor Andrew Atherton, Pro Vice Chancellor, on Thursday.

The event will begin in the Riseholme Conference Centre with a welcome by Clive Bound, Director of Riseholme Park, at 12 noon.

At 12.10pm John Trigg will give those present an update on progress made by the CoVE since last year and the plaque presentation will take place at 12.30pm.

The event will take place in the conference centre at Riseholme which has just been refurbished using money provided by the Learning and Skills Council through the CoVE.

Note to editors:

CoVE status aims to focus on specialist areas of provision with the support of close links with employers, other training providers and individuals. The CoVE’s key aim is to provide a qualified and skilled workforce to meet the needs of the industry it serves.
