Going through the Clearing process certainly paid off for University of Lincoln student Louise Brompton who is graduating in September with first class honours in Biomedical Science.

When she finished her A-levels in 2002 the 22-year-old from Newark went to the University of Worcester to study Psychology but left a few months later.

She reapplied through UCAS but was rejected by all six universities as she didnt have the required A-level points. Refusing to give up hope Louise applied to the University of Lincoln during Clearing.

I went to an open day at the university and was very impressed by the modern facilities and attractive campus which is ideally situated in the city centre. I didnt want to live away from home again and leave my family and friends. As Lincoln is within easy travelling distance it was the ideal choice.

I originally wanted to do Psychology but there werent any places left so I went through the prospectus to see if there were any alternative courses. I chose Biomedical Science as I have always been interested in medicine and the course looked really interesting, said Louise.

I rang the university and spoke to the course leader who arranged for me to go in and have an interview. I didnt have any science A-levels so they were very reluctant to let me on the course but I was very persistent and managed to secure a place.

I had already experienced a lot of disappointment after being rejected by six universities when I initially applied through UCAS but I really wanted to do the course at Lincoln and was determined to succeed.

I was really shocked when I found out Id got a First and delighted as Id proved everyone who doubted me wrong. Im so grateful Dr Carol Rea at the University of Lincoln gave me a chance. All my hard work has already paid off. I now want a career in the pharmaceutical industry and Ive already got several interviews lined up.
