A group of third-year Marketing students at the University of Lincoln are devising an advertising campaign for Soper of Lincoln to promote their move to new premises.

Mattias Persson, Ola Goransson, Alexander Stahler and Anna Skolaut, who are studying BA (Hons) Marketing, are undertaking the project for their Market Research module.

The BMW dealership is moving from its current premises in Dixon Street to Roman Way, South Hykeham in May.

The students organized a competition inviting their colleagues at the university to submit ideas for a marketing campaign. The winner, Carl Moncaster from Lincolnshire, will be presented with a BMW watch worth £500 at the end of the month.

Mattias, who is originally from Sweden, explains: “Launching the competition was a way of raising public awareness of the relocation and generating creative and innovative ideas for promoting the move.

“Carl’s idea was based on the theme of building up suspense ahead of the move using slogans such as ‘watch this space’ and ‘coming soon’. This concept has been used as the foundation for our campaign.”

University of Lincoln lecturer Nick Taylor said: “We encourage our students to undertake a live consultancy project in their final year to gain practical experience and develop skills which will make them more attractive to future employers.

“The university is keen to promote and encourage all of our students to engage with the community and in particular the local business community in a way which is beneficial to both parties.”

Dealer Principal at Soper of Lincoln Tony Suddes said: "We required a fresh, young and innovative approach to how we announced our impending relocation. The marketing course at the University of Lincoln was ideally suited for this task. We are pleased to have provided the student group with a real commercial challenge. A number of the ideas have been adopted so ‘watch this space!’”
