Two graduates from the University of Lincoln’s School of Art and Design will be turning heads at the Alternative Fashion Week in London next week.

Angela Coupe and Carol Robinson have recently graduated with BA (Hons) in Fashion Studies from the university and have been selected to show their work at the Swatch Alternative Fashion Week (20 – 24th March) in London.

Angela, who graduated in 2004, was also selected to show her university final collection of futuristic and space age inspired outfits, hats and accessories on the catwalk at the Alternative Fashion Week in 2005 and also competed for the Swatch Individual Designer Award.

She now owns a millinery business (www.hatsonheads.com) and is planning to start running workshops in Bracebridge Heath teaching people how to make hats, knit and sew.

Carol, who lives in Lincoln, graduated last year and is taking part in the fashion week for the first time.

Angela and Carol are two of around 60 designers from the UK and abroad selected to show their work on the catwalks at Spitalfields Traders Market.

They’ll also be competing for the Swatch Individual Designer Award and the Swatch College Award which are presented to the winning designer in recognition of their originality, creativity or innovative use of design.

Although Angela only graduated two years ago she says it is something she has always wanted to do: “Working in the fashion industry has been my dream since about the age of 16. Both Carol and I sat our City & Guilds exams when we left school and I did a BTEC in fashion but life got in the way and we never got any further with it.

“When my children left home I decided to go back to university and finally realise my ambition. It’s taken me a while to do it but I’m so glad that I’m finally doing what I’ve always wanted to do.”
