Executive of Connexions
The award is the culmination of two years’ hard work by husband and wife team Marcus and Becky Burnett.
Appointed as FE careers co-ordinator in 2004 Marcus was responsible for devising the careers education information and guidance policy and planning and delivering a comprehensive careers education programme for the FE sector at Riseholme.
In order to provide the highest possible quality service to students he decided to apply for Career Mark. This meant introducing a more rigorous and structured careers programme, having proper referral systems in place and making sure FE careers was an integral part of learning at Riseholme.
“Before applying for Career Mark one of the first things I did was design, develop and implement a virtual careers library so that students can access the necessary information not just while they’re on site but also while they’re at home,” said Marcus.
“Initially I worked on a one day a week basis but this has now been extended to two. Becky is now the FE careers co-ordinator and delivers a programme of careers activities tailored to each student’s individual needs. Being awarded Career Mark status is a really significant achievement for the staff and students.”
Career Mark Assessor Lynn Marson praised the facilities on offer to students: “The college has excellent information resources. This includes the virtual careers library. This contains a wealth of information, and appears to be well used by young people.”
The presentation ceremony will be held at Riseholme Park Campus at 1.30pm on Tuesday 7th February. Please call the press office to confirm your attendance.
