The University of Lincoln is leading the way in the higher education sector by becoming a member of the Institute of Customer Service.

David Parsons, Chief Executive of the ICS, visited the university today (Wednesday) to present a membership certificate to the Vice Chancellor, Professor David Chiddick.

Lincoln is the first UK university to have council membership of the ICS and also becomes a member of the Lincolnshire Customer Service Forum whose other members include Lincolnshire County Council and six of Lincolnshires seven district councils.

At the University of Lincoln the students come first, which is why the university has joined the Institute of Customer Service, said a university spokesman.

We want to continuously improve our standards of student care. The ICS is the UK's only body for customer service professionals and I'm sure the university and its students will benefit from membership.

ICS member organisations have access to three professional awards in customer service for individual employees.

The awards are designed to help customer service practitioners develop personal effectiveness in a way which will improve their performance in delivering customer service.

ICS membership can also act as a powerful cultural tool, signalling the commitment of the member organisation to deliver excellent customer care at all levels.

The ICS is a not-for-profit organisation established in 1997. Its members include over 130 leading private sector organisations including BT, British Airways and Tesco and around 40 local authorities including Lincolnshire County Council.
