A new series of lectures, concerts and exhibitions is set to enrich the cultural life of Hull.

The University of Lincoln is to launch the Hull Academy next month with the Derek Crothall Memorial Lecture to be given by Hilton Dawson MP on the implications of the Children’s Act 2004.

Mr Dawson will speak in the Savile Lecture Theatre, Derek Crothall Building, George Street, Hull, at 5.30pm on Thursday 4th November 2004.

A full programme of events is planned between now and next summer which will feature:

·               professorial lectures by senior university academics

·               a series of concerts by internationally acclaimed classical artists

·               the Derek Crothall Memorial Lectures

All these high-profile cultural events are to be offered to the public free of charge.

“Universities are traditionally thought of as ivory towers but the University of Lincoln has a crucial role to play in the economic and cultural life of Hull,” said Rebecca Platt, marketing officer for Hull and organiser of the Hull Academy events series.

“The Hull Academy exists as a vehicle by which the university can enrich the city’s artistic and intellectual environment with a series of cultural events.

A Hull Academy brochure which details forthcoming events will soon be available from the university. (See over for the full programme.)
