A University of Lincoln lecturer was presented with an award by Trevor Brooking CBE last night in recognition of his services to sport in the east midlands.
Robin Wright (49), who teaches Outdoor Recreation at Riseholme Park, was given a signed copy of Ellen McArthur’s book ‘Taking On The World’ by the former West Ham and England footballer.
The presentation at the National Ice Centre in Nottingham marked the end of Robin’s two-year tenure as finance officer for the Regional Sports Board East Midlands, which acts as the governing body for Sport England in the region.
Trevor Brooking, who appears regularly as a football pundit on BBC Television, was the chairman of Sport England until last year.
“My term of office came to an end last night but I will continue to work with the Regional Sports Board in a number of ways,” said Robin.
“The event was an opportunity to celebrate what’s been achieved in the east midlands over the past two years and to gather our thoughts with regard to the future.
“Trevor Brooking has been a great friend both to sport in the east midlands and to the university and it was a great pleasure to be able to chat with him afterwards over a drink.”
Robin Wright has been involved with the Regional Sports Board East Midlands and its predecessors for the past eight years.
Trevor Brooking visited the University of Lincoln in November 2000 to officially open the new £5 million sports centre at Brayford Pool.
