Kitson, currently one of the hottest properties on the comedy circuit, is the latest to appear at the university’s official Student Union bar following a groundbreaking deal with national comedy promoter You’re ‘Avin’ a Giraffe.
The comedy club has relocated its weekly stand-up sessions to the bar within the university Sports Centre, and live comedy is already proving a huge hit with Delph-goers.
You’re ‘Avin’ a Giraffe spokesman Shaun Almey said: “We are absolutely delighted with the welcome we have received. Audiences are up and everyone there has clearly gone along to have a great time, which our artists are happy to provide.”
Kitson, unmistakeable with his unkempt hair, bottle-bottom glasses and stuttering delivery, was a finalist in the BBC’s Open Mic Award in 1995. Three years later he was a finalist in the Hackney Empire New Act of the Year competition, and in 2001 his debut Edinburgh Festival show was nominated for comedy’s most prestigious accolade, the Perrier.
A year ago he took the show to London where it played to sell-out audiences at the Soho Theatre and Her Majesty’s Theatre. He has also appeared in cult TV smash ‘Phoenix Nights’ on Channel 4.
This year he claimed the Perrier with a new show, Something. He has also won a Time Out Award for live performance and a Chortle Award for best male comic on the circuit and has been nominated for the Barry Award at the Melbourne Comedy Festival.
Daniel Kitson is headlining at the Delph Bar tomorrow (Tuesday 1st October) with support from Dan Hadingham, and the compere is Brendan Riley. The doors open at 8pm and admission is £6 on the door (£5 NUS) - details from SU event co-ordinator Maria Lyon on Lincoln 886642.
