A leading academic has been appointed as a Pro Vice Chancellor at the University of Lincoln.
Professor Mike Saks, currently Dean of the Faculty of Health and Community Studies at De Montfort University, will work alongside Lincoln’s two existing Pro Vice Chancellors when he takes up his post in early September 2002.
Professor Saks will have responsibility for developing the university’s research and commercial partnerships strategy and will also oversee marketing and recruitment at the University of Lincoln.
“I am delighted to be taking up the appointment as Pro Vice Chancellor at a university with such great potential,” said Professor Saks. “I look forward very much to working with colleagues in further developing the university as an institution of quality and distinction.”
Professor Saks, who holds a PhD in Sociology from the London School of Economics, has held the posts of Head of Department and Head of School at De Montfort University. He was appointed Dean of the Faculty of Health and Community Studies in 1997.
He has published nine books and has given many invited international conference presentations. He has ongoing research collaborations with the Russian Academy of Sciences and the University of Toronto and was in a 5-rated research unit at the last Research Assessment Exercise.
Professor Saks has acted as a consultant at all levels of the NHS and is a member/chair of a number of health committees locally, regionally and nationally. He is also a current member of the executive of the International Sociological Association Research Committee on Professional Groups.
