Documents were signed today which will seal the transfer of part of De Montfort University to the University of Lincolnshire & Humberside tomorrow.


After six months of negotiations between DMU and ULH the Lincoln School of Art and Design and the Lincolnshire School of Agriculture will be transferred to ULH on 1st September.


The University of Lincolnshire & Humberside will be relaunched as the new  University of Lincoln on 8th October 2001.


Prof David Chiddick and Prof Philip Tasker, Vice Chancellors of ULH and DMU respectively, were at the Lincoln campus of ULH today to set their seal on the deal, which will see 300 staff, 1,100 HE students and 650 FE students transfer to the University of Lincolnshire & Humberside.


“This is an agreement which has national as well as local importance,” commented Prof Chiddick. “The Government is encouraging consolidation and collaboration in higher education but we are the first to reach an agreement of this kind.”


Prof Tasker added: “Our School of Art and Design and our School of Agriculture have built an international reputation over the last few years. There is now an opportunity here to build a new University of Lincoln and we are very pleased to have been able to contribute in a spirit of collaboration.”
