Budding journalist Zoe Harmston has been cutting her teeth at the studios of BBC Radio Lincolnshire in her spare time.

Zoe, a first year Journalism student at the University of Lincolnshire & Humberside, has been taking time out from her studies to work as a broadcast assistant on the station’s Saturday afternoon programmes.

“The staff are training me up on everything I need to know, and I’m really enjoying it,”said Zoe, who lives at Prospect Place, Market Rasen, when she’s not at university in Lincoln. “The people at the station are really helpful. Some women could find it difficult to be accepted on sports programmes, but the people at Radio Lincolnshire are very open-minded.”

Les Sheehan of BBC Radio Lincolnshire said that station has benefited from Zoe’s input. “Three students from the university have been helping out on our sports programme and learning exactly what’s involved in the broadcast of a fast-moving radio programme,” he said.

“We’ve enjoyed having them around - they’re all certainly good enough to make the grade if they decide on a career in radio after they leave Lincoln.”
