A new degree being offered this year at the University of Lincolnshire & Humberside is a sign of the times.

The Public Relations major which the university is offering both in Hull and in Lincoln reflects the rise of the spin doctor and the growing importance of the corporate image.

Students enrolling on the new degree programme at ULH can study Public Relations as a combination with other relevant courses such as Advertising, Business and Marketing (in Hull) and Communications, Journalism and Marketing (in Lincoln).

“The social and business environment is becoming increasingly complex,” said ULH lecturer Frank Wright. “This makes communication tasks more challenging,  particularly if good co-ordination and consistency of message is to be achieved.

“Developing a public relations strategy, planning communication campaigns and measuring the effectiveness of such campaigns are crucial for the reputation assurance of organisations.”

Key aspects of the new PR degree are:

·     an understanding of the use of new media for communication

·     in-depth consideration of ethical and value issues relating to PR

·     the broad range of PR activities studied in the course

·     the practical and vocational focus of study

·     an extensive programme of visiting speakers

The academic course team are members of the Institute of Public Relations and combine a senior level track record in the PR industry with extensive experience of teaching Public Relations to undergraduates.
