FRC visit to TEI, Thessaloniki

Prof. Tony Taylor and Dr Peter Quantick of the Food Research Centre, Faculty of Social and Life Sciences, have just returned from a visit to the Food Technology and Human and Nutrition Department of the Technological Education Institute, Thessaloniki.

The purpose of their visit was to undertake a review of the new curriculum and syllabuses of the Department’s B Sc in Food Technology on behalf of the Ministry of Education of the Greek Government. Tony and Peter also carried out a fuller “QAA - type” visit on the Department and its operation in October of last year - a visit also supported by the Ministry of Education.

The visit was a successful one and the report has been forwarded to the Ministry. Also, 2 new researchers were recruited and 2 potential research students, holding Government State Scholarships,  will be visiting the Centre to discuss possible research projects shortly. Staff at TEI are keen to pursue the development of a joint MSc course in Food Safety and Quality Management with the Department of Biological and Food Science.

British Council in Greece is supporting the continuing links through support for staff visits of 2 - 3 per year.

Peter and Tony also delivered lectures on areas of research in the FRC to staff and students and Tony Taylor made a presentation about the Lincoln Campus and the new developments there, in particular, the new science building.

The Food Research Centre has had a long-standing association with the Department and 2 of their Professors undertook their research degrees in the Food Research Centre.
