STUDENT FILM-MAKERS IN LINE FOR PRESTIGIOUS PRIZE
Two videos made by Media Production graduates from Lincoln have been shortlisted for a prestigious Royal Television Society award.
Jon Holmes (23) and Lawrence Wright (22), who graduated from the University of Lincolnshire & Humberside this summer, will attend the Royal Television Society (Midland Centre) Awards in Birmingham next month to find out if their work has won the coveted student category prize.
Whatever the result, their videos have also been nominated for a prize at the national Royal Television Society Awards which take place in London next March.
Thirty-second clips of ‘Ted’ (directed by Jon Holmes) and ‘Killing in the Name’ (directed by Lawrence Wright) will be shown on 14th October at the awards ceremony at Birmingham International Convention Centre, where the hosts will be TV personalities Bob Holness and Les Dennis.
The Midland Centre awards night is the biggest Royal Television Society event outside London and attracts big names from TV soap operas such as Coronation Street and Brookside.
“We’re were really excited about these particular pieces because they’re both exceptional in different ways,” commented Christine Bellamy, a lecturer in Media Production at the university.
“Both directors went out on location and tried hard to do different things with their stories and characters.
“The directors get the glory but both pieces were a team effort - each had a fantastic crew working with them at all levels which is something that we try to encourage at the university.”
