26th January 2000

Work by the University of Lincolnshire & Humbersideís new professor of sculpture will go on show at the Ferens Art Gallery in Hullís city centre next week.

Prof Joanna Mowbray from Huddersfield will give an inaugural lecture at the gallery at 6pm on Wednesday 2nd February. Her professorial exhibition, ĎAbyss and Encompassí, opens on the same day and can be seen until Sunday 20th February.

Prof Mowbray first joined the Hull School of Art & Design as a research assistant in 1985 after having worked at art schools around the country.

The University of Lincolnshire & Humberside professorship was endowed on her in 1998 but her hectic schedule has caused the postponement of her inaugural lecture and exhibition until next week.

Prof Mowbray has her own studio and workshop in her home town of Huddersfield and is currently creating sculptures using metal and sheet plastic.

The Ferens Art Gallery is open from Monday to Saturday from 10am until 5pm and on Sundays from 1.30pm until 4.30pm. Admission to the exhibition is free of charge.
