A student from the University of Lincolnshire & Humberside has scored five numbers and the bonus ball in the National Lottery draw.

Social Work undergraduate Theresa McCarthy was on a night out in Hull with friends when she unknowingly became £37,000 richer.

“I didn’t find out until later on when I heard the numbers on the radio and thought they sounded familiar,” said Theresa, who lives off Princes Avenue in the city.

“I didn’t really believe it until I checked the numbers on Teletext, and even then I still thought that I wouldn’t get that much money.”

The 27-year-old student is planning to spend part of her cash windfall on a wedding dress for a friend who is getting married next year. She also plans to indulge in clothes and presents for friends and family.

“I’ve been on a spending spree for clothes but I still don’t know whether I’m going to invest the rest of the money sensibly or just blow it!” she added.
