UNIVERSITY TO HELP TRAIN COMMUNICATIONS EXPERTS
Business experts from the University of Lincolnshire & Humberside are to pass on their skills to high-flying Yorkshire communications firm JWE Telecom.
The university has signed an agreement with JWE to accredit the training and development of the company’s 500 employees in Pocklington. Academics are also looking into the possibility of providing a Teaching Company Scheme for JWE which would allow university graduates to spend two years working with the firm as specialist consultants.
The Teaching Company Scheme will provide expertise in IT and e-commerce and will be overseen by leading academics at the university’s Department of Computing in Hull, which is part of the Faculty of Arts and Technology.
The new partnership will also give sandwich students from the university the opportunity to work on one-year placements at JWE in order to gain vital experience of the commercial world.
“We’re trying to encourage all our staff to register with the training scheme because we’re keen to promote personal and professional development,” said Lorraine Willis, training manager at JWE Telecom.
“We see this very important partnership as a continuation of our commitment to the training and development of our staff. This agreement with the University of Lincolnshire & Humberside will provide for the most far-reaching partnership we have ever had with an education provider.”
Steve Clough, the academic director and chief executive of the Lincolnshire Business Development Centre based at the university in Lincoln, is looking forward to the partnership. “JWE are a dynamic, fast-growing company - they’re a firm that’s going places,” he commented.
“This is a really exciting development and we’re looking forward to a long and fruitful partnership with JWE.”
