SOOTY STORY OF STUDENT SUCCESS

An art exhibition housed in one of the oldest art college buildings in the country opened last week.

More than 140 final year Art & Design students from the University of Lincolnshire & Humberside held their end-of-year show this month, with some of the work on display at the Anlaby Road site which opened in 1904.

Mature student Chris Mason, from Cottingham, was thrilled to discover she will graduate this summer with a 2:1 degree in Fine Arts.

Chris used a candle to create the soot effect for her display at Anlaby Road which she worked on while completing a dissertation on virtual reality.

“My work explores shapes and shadows, and I was fascinated to discover the kind of effects a candle can produce,” said Chris, who is hoping to go on to do an MA in Fine Arts later this year.
