Budding journalist Emma Lazenby is one of five students who have been chosen to produce a regular supplement for a local daily newspaper.

Emma, a first year Journalism student at the University of Lincolnshire & Humberside, will join the editorial team of XS when it is relaunched by the Lincolnshire Echo newpsaper.

I cant wait - its going to be great! said Emma, who lives on Vesper Road, Leeds, when shes not at university in Lincoln. Working on XS will give me more work experience, and it seems to me that well have quite a lot of freedom in what well be writing.

Emma has already had a taste of working in the industry, having spent two weeks in the newsroom of the Yorkshire Evening Post in Leeds while taking a year out after her A-levels.

Mike Gubbins, assistant editor of the Lincolnshire Echo, was delighted to have put the student editorial team in place. The students at the University of Lincolnshire & Humberside will be involved in every aspect of the production of XS magazine, he said.

It is a great credit to the university that its Journalism students can be used for the production of genuine community newspapers. We hope the relationship between the Lincolnshire Echo and the Journalism course will strengthen and grow as the years go by so that the majority of students have real newspaper and new media experience to add to their excellent academic training.
