LOCAL STUDENT TO MEET PRINCE ANDREW
An Ashbourne student will meet royalty this week (Thursday 1st April 1999) when HRH Prince Andrew visits a project to build a working two-seater aeroplane in Hull.
The Duke of York is due to inspect the work of students from the University of Lincolnshire & Humberside, who have spent the last two and a half years working on the kit plane.
Among the five first-year engineers who are looking forward to meeting the Prince during his tour of the Orchard Park estate in Hull is Phil Holmes of 12 Ashbourne Road, Derby.
Students following the BEng Engineering (Airframe) course at the university’s Cottingham Road campus have been working on the plane since December 1996 and are nearly ready to send the craft off for a paint job and engine fit.
The final fitting of the engine and the paint job will be carried out by Europa Aviation Ltd of Kirkbymoorside who originally supplied the kit plane to the university. Once the project is completed each student will get the chance to take a test flight in The Europa at Humberside Airport.
HRH Prince Andrew is due to visit Orchard Park and North Hull Enterprises on Dane Park Road, Orchard Park, on Thursday 1st April 1999. He is expected to visit the aeroplane project at 12.20pm.
