SURGE OF INTEREST IN MEDIA COURSES ON CAMPUS

 

Demand for places on communications and media-related courses offered at the University of Lincolnshire & Humberside has gone through the roof in the past 12 months.

 

Applications from students hoping to sign up for Journalism, Media Production or Communications courses at the Lincoln campus in September 1999 are up by a massive 58.8% on this time last year.

 

The high profile of the university’s new state-of-the-art media production centre and the publicity achieved by projects such as the student soap opera ‘Flat Out’ have helped to boost the number of applications.

 

Figures available at the beginning of January 1999 show:

 

·     Media Production applications up from 239 to 444 - an increase of 85.8%

·     Journalism applications up from 172 to 266 - an increase of 54.7%

·     Communications applications up from 92 to 125 - an increase of 35.9%

 

“These figures, coupled with the data released last month showing overall applications to the university up 14%, are a clear demonstration of the growing popularity of the University of Lincolnshire & Humberside,” commented university spokesman Jez Ashberry.
