WAKEFIELD MANAGERS SHARPEN THEIR SKILLS

A unique and innovative educational programme for managers has allowed eight Wakefield businessmen to achieve a Postgraduate Certificate in Management accredited by the University of Lincolnshire & Humberside.

The award forms the first stage of the university’s part-time MBA programme. The Wakefield Manager Programme is delivered off-campus and is the result of co-operation between the university (with centres in Hull, Grimsby and Lincoln), the Wakefield TEC and an independent company, New City Consultants.

The programme is designed to equip the contemporary manager with vital skills and covers such areas as commercial understanding, people skills, business project management and personal development.

“A significant thing about this course has been the way in which the group motivated and supported one another,” said Shaun Daniels, one of the participants. “It’s been a team thing.”

The eight students who successfully completed the Postgraduate Certificate in Management attended a presentation evening at the Wakefield TEC on Wednesday (18th November 1998).

“What makes this special is that the programme was an innovative partnership between a university, a private-sector provider and a TEC,” said course leader Jean Kellie. “It’s a vocationally relevant course bringing management development and management education to the community.”

The eight successful students are: Ian Byass, Shaun Daniels, John Deegan, Tony Kaye, Michael Lunn, Bill MacAulay, Darren Nightingale and Spencer Pym.
