University of Lincoln Scholarship for Asylum Seekers 2016

Applications for this 2016 scholarship have now closed.

This scholarship is for any applicant who is currently seeking asylum to stay in the United Kingdom as a refugee from any country. ‘Asylum Seeker’ is defined on the UK government’s website www.gov.uk/claim-asylum.

The scholarship provides full tuition fees and a £2,000 bursary.

The scholarship will be awarded based on academic ability.

The scholarship will be paid for each year of study whilst asylum in being sought. The scholarship will not be paid once refugee status (or humanitarian or discretionary leave) has been granted. Individuals recognised as refugees by the UK Government, and their eligible dependents, are granted a wide range of rights equal to those of a UK national, including access to education and funding support. Please be aware that Student Finance www.gov.uk/studentfinance will take into account previous study at degree level when assessing eligibility for financial support.

If asylum is denied and an individual is required to leave the country they will be unable to continue with their studies. The scholarship will not be paid if asylum is denied.

Eligibility

You must be applying through UCAS to study on a full time undergraduate programme to start in September 2016.

You must be able to demonstrate that you have applied for asylum.

Two scholarships are available.

The scholarship will be awarded based on the applicants who have achieved the highest qualifications at the equivalent of level 3 (A level). In the event that more than two applicants meet this criteria selection will be made based on the commitment to study demonstrated in the personal statement as judged by Professor Ieuan Owen, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research and International).

You do not need to complete an application form for this scholarship. Please email scholarships@lincoln.ac.uk with the following information:

  • Your UCAS ID
  • Copies of documentation demonstrating that you have applied for asylum.

You must apply by 24 March 2016 (closed).

Applicants will be notified of the outcome by 31 March 2016.
