Information and Advice for Prospective Students from Hong Kong

As one of the UK’s leading modern universities, students from more than 100 countries apply to the University of Lincoln each year for degree level studies.

To help you prepare, the following information provides guidance on the entrance requirements you will need to meet, alongside further information in support of your application.

Entry Requirements

Prospective students from Hong Kong are required to meet the following University of Lincoln entry requirements:

University Preparation Courses for International Students

International and EU students who do not meet the minimum undergraduate entry requirements have the opportunity to study a preparation course at the University of Lincoln International Study Centre.

Students can apply for the International Foundation Year, a one-year course that aims to prepare you for the first year of your chosen degree. Students can choose from two subject routes:

● International Foundation Year in Business and Media
● International Foundation Year in Engineering and Computing

Students can also apply for the International Year One, an intensive, one-year course that is the equivalent of the first year of an undergraduate degree. Students can choose from four subject routes:

● International Year One in Business and Management
● International Year One in Computer Science
● International Year One in Engineering
● International Year One in Media Studies

Upon successful completion, students are able to progress to an undergraduate degree at the University of Lincoln.

Prospective students require one of the following qualifications for entry into year one of an undergraduate degree:

 

  • UCAS Tariff between 104-136 points
  • Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) from 44333 to 55433 depending on the programme
  •  International Baccalaureate (IB) points from 27 to 34 points depending on the programme
  • Hong Kong Advanced Level Certificate
  • Good Honours Diploma / Associate Degree / Higher Diploma (from former polytechnics)

 

Advanced Entry (Undergraduate)

Depending on your academic background and intended course of study, it may be possible to apply for advanced entry into year 2 or 3 of a University of Lincoln undergraduate course.

Depending on your academic background and intended course of study, it may be possible to apply for advanced entry into year 2 or 3 of a University of Lincoln undergraduate course with a GPA of 2.5 to 3.0.

Postgraduate Taught (e.g. MA/MSc)

Entry requirements for postgraduate (Master’s degree) programmes vary by course although prospective students require a Bachelor’s (Honours) degree with a minimum GPA 2.5 or above (2:2 equivalent).

Postgraduate Research (e.g. MPhil/PhD)

For postgraduate research courses such as a PhD, a Master’s degree is usually required. For further information on entry requirements please visit the individual subject pages.

English Language Requirements

Prospective students require IELTS 6.0 (with no less than 5.5 in each band score) or an equivalent qualification. Please note that some courses require a higher score.

 

HKDSE English 4, and above, with all components is accepted in place of IELTS.

Students who do not meet the above English language requirements may be eligible for entry onto a Pre Sessional English and Academic Study Skills (PEASS) course.
