We spoke to Kayley about her experience on the Food Science degree as part of her Technical Professional Apprenticeship at the National Centre for Food Manufacturing.

The National Centre for Food Manufacturing offers a wide range of professionally accredited short course options, including British Retail Consortium (BRC) accredited programmes. Our short courses cover areas including auditing, food safety, Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point, health and safety, management and team development, and technical and product development.
We spoke to Kayley about her experience on the Food Science degree as part of her Technical Professional Apprenticeship at the National Centre for Food Manufacturing.
The National Centre for Food Manufacturing is now offering a selection of short courses online. Our e-Learning programmes offers flexibility, allowing you to choose when to sit the modules online. Our e-Learning courses include: Food Safety; Health and Safety; Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point; and Introduction to Allergens.
The University of Lincoln proudly offers Skills Bootcamps as part of the UK Government’s Skills for Life initiative, supported locally by Lincolnshire County Council. These flexible courses provide at least 60 hours of training and help learners upskill for a new role or progress in their current job.
Skills Bootcamps are free for individuals and can be delivered online, in person, or a mix of both. Employers may need to contribute: large organisations receive 70% government funding, and SMEs 90%. To be eligible, learners must live and work in Greater Lincolnshire or Rutland.
This Skills Bootcamp supports professionals in agriculture and environmental sectors, especially those specialising in sustainable land management. It offers two industry-recognised qualifications: the BASIS Certificate in Sustainable Land Management, ideal for environmental advisers, farmers, and land managers, and the BASIS Certificate in Soil and Water Management, focusing on protecting soil structure, preventing erosion, and reducing water pollution. Successful completion of these certificates form 2 of the required qualifications for achieving the BASIS Diploma in Agronomy.
Delivery: Blended (Online/In Person at the Riseholme Campus)
Cost: This course is part-funded as part of the Government’s Lifetime Skills Guarantee. SMEs pay 10% of the programme value, while large employers pay 30%: SME £350, Large Business £1050 (full price £3500).

This Skills Bootcamp acts as the first steps in the development of students into their role as leaders and managers. The Skills Bootcamp builds learning opportunities for students to progress through a series of simulations based on workplace activities. The first stage of their development is building the foundation blocks of the skills and attributes of leadership and management which is then progressed through advanced application to more complex and challenging leadership and management roles. The Skills Bootcamp is designed for junior managers who hold job titles such as team leader or supervisor, providing them with 30 credits from the University of Lincoln at level 4.

This Skills Bootcamp is ideal for food industry professionals responsible for maintaining high standards of safety and quality. It covers food safety best practices, hazard management, auditing, and the application of Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) principles. Through a mix of theory and hands-on learning, participants will gain the skills to manage risks, support continuous improvement, and prepare for internal and third-party audits. Successful completion of the Skills Bootcamp results in a certificate of attendance, with the opportunity for external certification in Food Safety, HACCP and Internal Auditing.

This Skills Bootcamp supports Process Leaders and multiskilled operatives working in seafood manufacturing, including high-volume, advanced, or small-scale operations. Participants will develop essential knowledge, skills, and behaviours to lead or support production activities and drive improvements in quality, efficiency, and safety. The course also prepares delegates to take on wider responsibilities related to resourcing, budgets, equipment, materials, health and safety, the environment, and risk management. By the end of the programme, learners will be better equipped to contribute to operational excellence and continuous improvement within their organisations.
