Dr Trish Jackman

Dr Trish Jackman, Associate Professor in Sport and Exercise Psychology, has been championed as one of the most influential researchers in her discipline globally, ranking among the top 2% most cited academics worldwide in her field. Her prestigious recognition, based on citation impact data compiled by an international research team, reflects the global significance and reach of her work in sport and exercise psychology. Trish's inclusion on the list highlights over a decade of collaborative, evidence-based work carried out at Lincoln with colleagues, students, and external partners.

In September 2025, Dr Jackman was also awarded Fellowship status by the Chartered Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (CASES), earning the post-nominals FCASES. This honour recognises her outstanding contributions to the field, both in the UK and internationally. She was recently appointed Chair of the CASES Psychology Division.

It is a tremendous honour to be recognised in these ways. The accolades reflect the collaborative efforts of the brilliant colleagues, students, and research partners I’ve had the privilege of working with for over a decade at the University of Lincoln. I’m deeply passionate about improving people’s experiences in physical activity and sport through impactful, community-engaged, evidence-based research and practice.

Shaping Policy, Practice, and Education

Dr Jackman’s research explores how individuals can perform at their best, improve their experiences in sport and physical activity, and support mental wellbeing. Her work spans topics including optimal psychological states in athletes, the promotion of physical activity among older adults, and strategies to reduce loneliness in sport communities.

She has developed impactful frameworks such as SÍOL na nÓige, (psychology in the athletic development of young people in Gaelic games), and contributed to inclusive research through the Ageing Physical Activity Network, working alongside older citizens and local community partners.

Her work continues to shape policy, practice, and learning environments in sport settings nationally and internationally. Alongside her research, Dr Jackman provides consultancy through the University’s Human Performance Centre, offering applied sport psychology support to athletes, teams, and coaches, including work with Lincoln City Football Club’s academy.
