Medicine Admissions
Interviews and Selection Guide
The following information applies to both MBChB Medicine (A100) and MBChB Medicine with Gateway Year (A106) at the University of Lincoln.
Selection to Interview (Scoring)
Eligibility for interview is typically determined by a combination of GCSE and UCAT scores. We do not use A Levels or predicted grades towards your selection score.
If you have not taken GCSEs or equivalents, or are applying with a relevant degree, we will only use your UCAT score. Your application will not be disadvantaged if we only use your UCAT results and this will be adjusted as part of the selection process.
We do not have a set cut-off score to select to interview, and this varies year by year.
Additional widening participation criteria will also be considered for selecting applicants to interview for the MBChB Medicine programme.
Applicants will only be ranked against other applications for the course they have applied for. Please note, you cannot apply for both of our Medicine courses.
GCSE Grade Requirements
For MBChB Medicine (A100) to meet the entry requirements, at least six GCSEs at Grade 7 or above are required including Biology, and Chemistry or Double Science. Minimum of Grade 6 in English and Maths.
The highest six GCSEs will be scored including Biology, Chemistry or Double science, Maths, and English (Language), plus the two highest others.
For MBChB Medicine with Gateway Year (A106) to meet the entry requirements, at least five GSCEs at Grade 6 are required including Biology, Chemistry or Double science, Maths, and English (Language).
The highest six GCSEs will be scored including Biology, Chemistry or Double science, Maths, and English (Language), plus two highest others.

Additional Scoring for Contextual Applicants
For applicants applying for MBChB Medicine (A100) that would be eligible for a contextual offer, additional scoring listed below will be applied to the total academic score (combined GCSE and UCAT scores) to determine whether an applicant is selected for interview.
Scoring for the measures identified will be applied as follows. The maximum score that can be achieved is 15.
Measure | Selection Score |

MEM2 is a data set provided by UCAS and is a composite score based on several equality factors incorporating free school meals, where applicants live using POLAR4 data, income deprivation affecting children index (IDACI) and school type. Quintiles 1 and 2 represent the most disadvantaged groups and those least likely to progress to higher education. We receive this information as part of your UCAS application and do not have access.
Where you receive a contextual score, the score will be added to the GCSE and UCAT score and taken into consideration working out your total score.
For our A106 Medicine with Gateway year, all applicants are required to satisfy contextual entry requirements; hence no additional contextual score is applied.
Medicine Interviews
No offers for Medicine are made without an interview within the current Admissions cycle. This does not mean that we interview all applicants.
Photographic identification will be required for all applicants at interview and an applicant who does not have appropriate photo ID with them at the time of their interview will not be interviewed.
The purpose of the interview is to provide an opportunity to demonstrate evidence of skills and attributes that are appropriate to a career in Medicine and to display insight into a range of topics related to working as a doctor, as outlined by Medical Schools Council.
Medicine Interview Format
Interviews for both the MBChB Medicine and MBChB Medicine with Gateway Year programmes will be in the format of Multiple Mini Interviews (MMIs). These will take place in person at our Brayford Pool Campus.
For Widening Participation applicants, funding may be available for the purposes of travel/accommodation to allow attendance at MMIs.
There will consist of seven stations in rotation, with each station scored across three different domains, creating a total score of 70.
Reasonable adjustments
Reasonable adjustments for interviews will be considered but must be disclosed prior to booking/attending your interview slot, so that these can be accommodated.
Selection for Offer Post-Interview
A combination of academic score (GCSE, UCAT, and where applicable, a contextual score) and interview score will be used to determine eligibility for offer.
Subsequent offers for successful applicants will be contextual based on University of Lincoln criteria and conditional on satisfactory DBS/Occupational Health clearance prior to commencing the course.
