This BASIS certificate course concentrates on field vegetables, and it was originally designed for those involved in selling, supplying or advising on the use of, pesticides. Recently it has been of great interest to farmers and managers of vegetable units looking to further their knowledge and understanding of crop agronomy. The main focus is on brassicas, potatoes, carrots, lettuce, onions and leeks.

The course is held over 17 days organised into 5 blocks of three days, plus two days for the final examination. There are normally three to four weeks between each block. Delivery is through participatory lectures, group exercises, practicals and visits.
The course is assessed by means of a one hour multi-choice examination, an identification test, a written project and a field-based oral exam. Successful candidates will be awarded HE credits that can be used towards completion of the Harper Adams Diploma in Agronomy. This course is worth 30 CPD points.
