Course Overview

This is an NHS England approved ten-day leadership programme which follows the national curriculum for those working within NHS Talking Therapy services. This course will offer aspiring, emerging and established leaders an exciting opportunity to build their skills in compassionate and inclusive leadership, with a focus on staff wellbeing. The course is designed to allow these leaders a space for reflective practice, sharing experiences, and developing skills in partnership working and influencing others. Emphasis is also placed on the importance of the integration of Experts by Experience within service design and delivery, as well as critical appraisal of service improvement strategies.

Teaching materials and delivery methods are designed to accommodate diverse learning styles and accessibility needs, and content is underpinned by theory, such as understanding models of leadership and Theory of Change, and evidence-based practice. This strategy will be further supported by the use of case studies, group work/discussions, reflective tasks, experiential learning and Action Learning Sets (ALS). ALSs are designed to support these emerging leaders to develop their critical thinking skills, and their ability to work alongside peers in an effective and cohesive manner and allow for real-world problem solving.
Inclusivity, diversity and ethical practice are embedded throughout teaching and learning exercises, and there is a commitment to fostering a safe and inclusive learning environment.

Teaching content is designed to allow leaders to reflect on their understanding of evidence-based practice, its evolving nature, and how this needs to be responded to within an organisational structure. This will ensure that future leaders in psychological therapies are equipped to make informed, ethical, and effective decisions that align with current research and clinical standards.
