Amazing Lincoln: VIP Freshers Year — Prize Draw Terms and Conditions

1. Promoter

University of Lincoln, Brayford Pool, Lincoln LN6 7TS, United Kingdom ("Promoter").

2. Promotion A free prize draw to win the Amazing Lincoln: VIP Freshers Year (the "Prize") as defined in clause 6. "Upgrade" language in publicity is descriptive only; these Terms prevail.

3. Eligibility

Open to United Kingdom residents (England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland) aged 17+ who intend to start an undergraduate course at the University of Lincoln in September 2026. Employees/contractors/agents of the Promoter (and their households) are excluded.

4. Entry routes

a) Automatic applicant entry: One entry per person is allocated to any individual who has submitted a 2026 UCAS application naming the University of Lincoln. Entry to the draw does not influence admissions decisions. By the Draw Date, entrants must have an offer from the University that has been confirmed (unconditional) or have met the conditions of their offer, based on University records.

b) Free entry route (for non-UCAS applicants): One entry per person by post to “Amazing Lincoln VIP Freshers Year Prize Draw, Marketing, University of Lincoln, Brayford Pool, Lincoln, LN6 7TS”, providing full name, UK postal address, email, date of birth, and confirming intention to begin an undergraduate course in 2026 via a direct application route other than UCAS. The free route is available at the normal rate (e.g., first or second class post), is no less convenient, and is promoted with equal prominence to any other route.

c) Maximum one entry per person across all routes. Automated/third-party entries are void. No purchase is necessary. The system determining the winner does not distinguish between entry routes.

5. Promotional period

Opens 26 December 2025. Closing Date: 23:59 UK time on 26 August 2026. Draw Date: on or around 28 August 2026.

6. Prize

One winner receives for the 2026/27 academic year:

  • A single‑occupancy ensuite room of their choice in one of the University’s managed halls of residence: selection of St Marks, Cygnet Wharf, The Gateway, 179 High Street or Valentine Court for the standard annual tenancy duration for the chosen residence (40/44/46/51 weeks), including standard utilities and Wi‑Fi, booked under the University’s standard Accommodation Tenancy Agreement; and

  • the following extras for 2026/27: annual gym membership at the University of Lincoln Sports Centre; four gig tickets to a maximum value of £50 each at the Engine Shed venue (subject to availability, venue/event terms); restaurant/shopping vouchers to an annual value of £1,000; annual laundry card to an annual value of £200.

    Estimated total package value: £11,000. The Prize is not transferable, not for resale, and no cash or bursary alternative is offered. If any specified element becomes unavailable, the Promoter may substitute an element of equal or higher value of similar nature. Where a cash alternative is necessary, it will be equal in value to the unavailable element.

7. Prize conditions

a) The winner must enrol and remain registered as a University of Lincoln undergraduate student for 2026/27 and must sign the University’s Accommodation Tenancy Agreement.

b) The Prize covers room rent and standard utilities/Wi‑Fi only as per the tenancy agreement. Damages, optional services and personal expenses are excluded.

c) If the winner withdraws/defers or otherwise ceases to be enrolled, any unused element is forfeited.

8. Winner selection and notification

Eligible entries are assigned unique IDs and the winner is selected at random using a verifiable random number generator on the Draw Date in the presence of an independent observer.

The winner will be contacted by email/phone within 5 working days. If the winner does not respond within 10 working days or fails eligibility checks, a reserve may be contacted in the same way.

The Promoter will publish the winner’s surname and county (or initials on request) on a dedicated webpage within 14 days of confirmation, and will provide evidence of the award to the ASA on request.

9. Publicity

The Promoter may publish the winner’s surname and county on request. With separate consent, the winner may appear in promotional content. You may object to publication or request initials only by contacting enquiries@lincoln.ac.uk; details may still be provided to the ASA on request.

10. Administration and fairness

The Promoter may disqualify entries that are incomplete, ineligible, or in breach of these Terms. The Promoter will not change the Closing Date or materially alter the Prize once open, except where unavoidable and not to entrants’ material detriment.

11. Liability

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any liability that cannot be excluded under law. Subject to that, the Promoter will not be responsible for:

  • any loss, damage, disappointment, emotional distress or loss of chance suffered by entrants arising from entering, being unable to enter, or not winning;

  • any indirect or consequential losses, or loss of profits, business, revenue or goodwill;

  • entries not received due to technical, network, or systems issues outside the Promoter’s reasonable control; or

  • performance of third‑party elements of the Prize (e.g., venue events, vouchers), which are subject to those third parties’ terms. Your statutory rights are not affected.

12. Force majeure

If events beyond the Promoter’s reasonable control materially affect the Promotion or Prize, the Promoter may suspend or amend the Promotion or substitute reasonable alternatives, always acting fairly and in a way that does not materially disadvantage entrants.

13. Complaints and dispute resolution

Queries or complaints about the Promotion should be sent to enquiries@lincoln.ac.uk in the first instance. If a complaint concerns advertising, you may also refer it to the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA). This clause does not affect your legal rights.

14. Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them are governed by the laws of England and Wales. You and the Promoter submit to the non‑exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, meaning you may also be able to bring proceedings in your local UK court.

15. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.

16. No third‑party rights 

Except for the winner (and any permitted substitute under clause 6), no person other than the Promoter and the entrant has any rights under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999 to enforce any of these Terms.

17. Priority of terms

In the event of any inconsistency between these Terms and any other statements in any promotional materials, these Terms prevail. The Promoter will ensure that all pre‑contract information presented to prospective students (including webpages and applicant communications) is accurate and consistent with these Terms.

Privacy: The University will process entrants’ personal data to administer the Promotion, contact winners, publish limited winner details and meet regulatory obligations.
