These workshops explore a variety of leadership, management, and logistics topics with discussions ranging from the challenges we face in delivering goods around the world in an environmentally sustainable way through to looking at strategy and strategic concepts, motivation theory, and management and leadership styles.

When loo roll became scarce at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic we realised the importance of logistics. We were reassured by Government and food retailers that there were no shortages and yet we could not get certain products on supermarket shelves as quickly as people were buying them. This session looks at 3 key factors around the topic of logistics: how did we end up with shortages? how were these eventually fixed? what are challenges of delivering goods around the world with as little environmental impact as possible?
You may already be familiar with some motivation theorists such as Taylor, Maslow and Herzberg. These tend to focus on the things that motive such as food, money, friendship, promotion etc. These content theories tell us what might motivate people. This session focuses on how we are motivated. We explore the ways we think through situations and evaluate factors to decide if we are motivated. This might depend on our expectations, how fair something feels and if we have been set clear goals. You may know some of these already and if not, they will be an introduction to those you might study at university on business and management courses.
This session draws specifically on Blake and Mouton's grid where you will complete a short questionnaire to see if you have a higher concern for people or tasks. We will then test this by setting you a short group activity where you need to lead, based on your own preferred concern. In addition, throughout this task an overall leader will need to choose when to do something themselves and when to delegate. We will all come back together to review the task, the extent to which it was achieved and people's concerns were accommodated. We will explore the challenges of being a leader and how Tannenbaum and Schmidt's model might help us choose the right style in different circumstances
This workshop takes strategy concepts such as SWOT analysis and Porter's 5 Forces and adapts them so you can apply them to you personally. Rather than a SWOT analysis, you will complete a SWAIN - looking at Strengths, Weaknesses, Aspirations, Interests and Needs. Competition analysis will help you assess your place in the market for university courses, jobs and how you might improve your position. We will complete the session by letting you explore your personal branding, how you project yourself in social media and even designing your own coat of arms or what your Insta page will look like in 5 years time
