Howard Gannaway
Howard began his career in teaching before moving into financial services, where he played a leading role in developing technical processes and client communication standards for the emerging financial planning profession. His work focused on translating complex financial information into clear, practical guidance that people could understand and use.
In 1989, he established his own financial planning practice and was awarded Fellowship of the Institute of Financial Planning. He was also among the first professionals in the UK to gain the international Certified Financial Planner™ designation.
In 2004, Howard became Research Fellow in Financial Education at NIACE (National Institute of Adult Continuing Education). He wrote extensively on financial learning for professional journals, learning materials, websites, and the trade press. He also worked with the Financial Services Authority and other partners to help develop the UK Financial Capability Strategy, supporting efforts to improve financial understanding and confidence across the country.
As a long-standing Non-Executive Director of Doncaster Chamber of Commerce and local Business Links, Howard became Chief Executive of Doncaster Chamber in 2010. He led the organisation through recovery following the 2008 financial crisis, rebuilding stakeholder relationships and securing major business support programmes funded by organisations including the European Regional Development Fund, the Department for Work and Pensions, and Doncaster Council.
He later returned to NIACE, and subsequently the Learning and Work Institute, as a Senior Associate. His work has included providing technical advice on Advanced Learning Loans for the Skills Funding Agency and developing learning resources for Experian and the Department of Health. He has also supported projects in skills development and economic growth.
Howard is a member of the Money and Pensions Service national steering group on workplace financial capability. He is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment and holds the international Certified Financial Planner™ designation. He joined Lincoln International Business School to support its ambition of developing the professional qualities needed by future global business leaders.
