CRIMINOLOGY

Understanding Crime, Harm and Justice

Criminology at Lincoln asks why people commit crime, why societies punish some harms and overlook others, and what actually works to make communities safer. It's where sociology, law, politics and social policy meet.

You'll be taught by active researchers whose work on policing, deterrence, drugs, youth justice, prisons and environmental harm feeds straight into your seminars. You'll learn to read evidence critically and test theories against real data. You'll also work alongside the police and other criminal justice agencies, building the skills that jobs in justice, policy and research call for.

The Criminology Behind Cinema’s Infamous Killers

Born to Be Violent? The Criminology Behind Cinema’s Infamous Killers. In this episode of Crime Scenes of Tinseltown, Brett Harman (@brettflix40) is joined by Anthony Ellis, Associate Professor in Criminology at the University of Lincoln, to put some of cinema’s most notorious killers and violent characters under the criminological microscope.

Study Overseas

Our full-time undergraduate students may have the opportunity to study abroad at a partner institution, with the potential for further work or volunteering while away. This gives our students the chance to think about their course in an international context, as well as experience new ideas and cultures.

Student as Producer

We are committed to giving students the opportunity to meaningfully contribute to the knowledge in their chosen field through their own research. Throughout the course students may have the opportunity to contribute to ongoing research projects or even conduct their own research. Recent publications by Lincoln students include research by Ben Pelling on 'mid level' recreational drugs supply and by Mikey Hirst on the advertising for semaglutide and testosterone clinics on social media.

Studying criminology at the University of Lincoln really gave me all the tools that I needed to step into a career.
