The Clearing Process

Clearing is the system that offers students who have not yet secured a place at university, the opportunity to apply for available places. Every year thousands of students find courses to suit their individual needs through the national Clearing process.

The service is available between July and September, although most activity takes place after A-level results, this year on 17th August.

Students choose to enter Clearing for a number of reasons:

  • More successful results than they had expected and they want a course to reflect these
  • Grades that do not meet their initial conditional offer and they would like to consider other options
  • Unsuccessful in an earlier UCAS application
  • Last minute decision to apply for University
  • Change of mind about their choice of University.

Follow our handy Step-by-step Guide to Clearing.
