University Regulations and Schedule of Awards
University General Regulations
The University General Regulations apply to all students and learners enrolled on University of Lincoln programmes. They contain information about the University’s rules and processes around such matters as Tuition Fees, Academic Offences, Academic Review and Appeals, Exam and Live Assessment Conduct, Mitigating Circumstances, Fitness to Practise, Student Complaints, Student Misconduct and the use of the Library (this is not an exhaustive list). Introduction
The University General Regulation sets out the general principles and regulations which apply across the University, to its community and its awards as listed in the University’s Schedule of Awards.
These Regulations and University policy documents apply to all students (reference to which includes apprentices), staff and to all University awards. Likewise, students are governed by the following which form part of the University’s contract with its students:
- Undergraduate Regulations
- Foundation Degree Awards
- Graduate Diploma/Certificate Awards
- Higher National Programme Awards
- Integrated Masters Degrees
- Postgraduate Taught Regulations
- Postgraduate Research Regulations
- Terms and Conditions of Admission
- University Policies
These Regulations take effect for all students and staff from the date of publication.
These Regulations may at any time be amended or added to by the University.
These English language Regulations are the only authentic version of the University Regulations. Any dispute arising under these Regulations will be resolved in the English language.
It is the responsibility of students and staff to acquaint themselves with these Regulations.
The University is made up of the College of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities, the College of Health and Science, and various Institutes. These Colleges may have different nomenclatures to refer to cognate or subject areas. In the context of these Regulations, “School” refers to any of these different groups. Similarly, Head of School refers to the Designated Responsible Officer of these groups, as appropriate.
The University Academic Board designates awarding powers to the Board of Examiners for taught programmes and College Research Degrees Boards for research programmes. In the context of these Regulations, these are synonymously referred to as the Board of Examiners.
Working days means Monday to Friday inclusive but does not include bank holidays or formal University closure days.

Undergraduate Regulations (2026-27)
The Undergraduate Regulations are regulations for students enrolled on Undergraduate programmes and cover such details as the Awards of the University, Assessment, Boards of Examiners, External Examiners and Publication of Results.
Students enrolled on the Undergraduate programmes listed below must ensure they are familiar with the relevant section of the Variations to Undergraduate Regulations. These variations apply to their programme.
Postgraduate Taught Regulations (2026-27)
The regulations for students enrolled on Postgraduate Taught programmes cover such details as the Awards of the University, Admissions, Enrolment and Registration, Assessment, Board of Examiners, External Examiners and publication of results.
In addition to the Postgraduate Taught Regulations, students should also read the Variations to Postgraduate Taught Regulations.
This University has developed a Menu Format of the Undergraduate and Postgraduate Variations to Regulations, offering students the option to view variations which might apply to their programme, at a glance. This is subject to change as this development evolves.
Postgraduate Research Regulations (2026-27)
The regulations for students enrolled on Research Postgraduate programmes (Masters by Research, MPhil or PhD), covering such details as Enrolment, Progression, Supervision, Transfer of Enrolment from MPhil to PhD, Examinations, Examiners and the Thesis. They also provide an overview of each research degree programme type.
In addition to the Postgraduate Research Regulations, students on the DClinPsy programme should also read the relevant section of the Doctorate of Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy) Joint Regulations 2024-25. Students who enrolled on the DClinPsy programme prior to 23-24 should read the DClin Psy 2022-23 regulations.
Higher Doctorate Regulations (2026-27)
The regulations for the Higher Doctorate Degrees of DD, LLD, DLitt, DMus, DEng and DSc.
Regulations Development
The Legal and Compliance team have ownership of the University Regulations and are able to provide guidance on their application.
The Legal and Compliance team provide a supportive drafting service for University Regulations and collaborate with staff to navigate the passage of new, and updates to existing, Regulations through the approval stages of the committee process.
Staff looking to request a change or variation to the regulations, or Schedule of Awards, should initiate a conversation with the team via policies@lincoln.ac.uk alongside completing the below proforma for submission to the team:
