MA Journalism, War and International Human Rights

MA 1 - 2 years Lincoln School of Journalism Lincoln A good Honours degree from a recognised university

Introduction

The MA in Journalism, War and International Human Rights is a unique and innovative course for people who are concerned with human rights and the issues relating to war and peace and who want to learn the journalistic skills necessary to communicate this to a wider public.

Probably the most important issues facing societies globally are those relating to war and peace. Equally, the US-led ‘war on terror’ has impacted seriously on human rights in countless countries across the globe. This MA aims to equip students with the full range of skills – both practical and intellectual – necessary to work as journalists in these fields, whether for the media, NGOs or national and international governmental bodies. The theory and practice of peace journalism is developing globally and this new MA is the first in the UK to explore this field in depth.

Career Opportunities

The programme specialises in war and international human rights which relate directly to the jobs market – for instance in NGOs (such as Amnesty International, Privacy International) and government bodies (such as human rights commissions). It can also form the starting point for progression to MPhil or PhD study.

Key Features

Vocational elements of the course are strengthened by an integral work placement, career advice and by regular contact with specialists in the field. Students have access to the School’s excellent facilities, including seven newsrooms.
