Teaching & Assessment
Our permanent team of eight, six of whom have PhDs, are possessors of extensive teaching experience in the leisure-based industries, complemented by practitioner experience. We are rated in the top five out of forty universities for student satisfaction in the leisure and tourism subject area.
We have young colleagues with expertise in sport and event management in the community and commercial sectors, in the sustainable management of events, and in international mobility.
We have senior colleagues who have enjoyed management experience in the organisation of conventions, the management of arts and entertainment venues, and the travel industries. Members of our team present papers at international conferences, undertake research, and publish widely.
We use assessment as a tool to develop intellect, and to simulate the individual, practical and team-working skills required in the workplace. These skills include those of written and oral presentation, numeracy, and the use of software as for presentation and analysis.
Some of the assessed work will be undertaken for events organisations with which the team has links. The third-term dissertation is the opportunity to pursue an individual project with a personal supervisor from the staff team.
Facilities
Access to some 45,000 academic journals and several dozen subscription databases is available to desktop via our electronic library. Our physical library is housed in an impressively-converted historic railway warehouse, which is also equipped with state-of-the art pc terminals and study facilities.
Our Faculty Building, the Library and the Students' Union are located within seconds' walk from one another. Our site is a few minutes' walk from Lincoln railway station.
Links With Industry
Our postgraduate students have come from a number of countries, including Germany, France, Finland and China, as well as the United Kingdom. We find that the sharing of knowledge and perspectives from these different backgrounds adds to the student experience.
We normally organise day-out excursions to particular destinations and/or organisations during the academic year. You will also be welcome to attend student and staff seminars organised within the Business School.
Careers
The continued internationalisation and growth of the events industry is being accompanied by a growing professionalisation of the workforce with an increased demand for educated executives. These, and other developments in the sector, continue to fuel the demand for internationally relevant postgraduate education.
