Master of Architecture (RIBA/ARB Part II)
Master of 2 yrs full-time, 3 yrs part-time Lincoln School of Architecture Lincoln An honours degree. Students should have a first degree in Architecture plus a year outIntroduction
The subject of architecture is immense and the Masters of Architecture course at Lincoln affords each student the freedom and flexibility to engage in the design of their own postgraduate education, within a framework which satisfies the requirements of the UK RIBA/ARB Part 2.
The MArch aims to develop the skills, competence and design knowledge of practising designers. Students have the opportunity to specialise and focus on the aspects of architecture that interest them and which give them the best employment prospects.
We see the flexibility of the course as an excellent opportunity for postgraduate students to take control of their professional future.
Content
At Level One, students are re-introduced to University life and acquainted to Postgraduate level of enquiry. Research and design are tackled in parallel, whereby students are free to choose their research topics, and from a range of design studios with varied and distinct agendae and specialisms.
Level Two deals initially with aspects of professional practice, before turning its undivided attention to the production of a final comprehensive design project, integrating aspects of technology, sustainability, research and cultural awareness in the design process.
Teaching & Assessment
The course aims to develop the skills, competence and design knowledge of practicing designers.
Design work is assessed through project reviews and portfolio assessments, research through dissertations and research presentations.
The course builds on two key strengths of architecture teaching at the University of Lincoln: an established and highly regarded research ethos and a creative and imaginative approach to the design of buildings. It draws upon excellent technical facilities and staff, and aims, through its studio structure, to be at all times current and up-to-date. A series of lectures from high profile academics and practitioners forms the intellectual spine of both levels of study. Rapid prototyping, manufacturing and parametric design techniques are offered to and widely used by students.
Careers
After successful completion of the programme, you may choose to progress to the Postgraduate Diploma of Practice and Management in Architecture (ARB/RIBA Part 3) to become a registered architect.
