Introduction
MSc Accounting is a fast-track conversion qualification for those without an Accounting or Finance background who wish to enter a career in this area.
The programme is led by renowned academics and expert professionals. With strong industry links, it aims to develop the theoretical and practical skills relevant to the accounting function within the private, public and not-for-profit sectors. It is designed to provide professional accountancy skills within an international business perspective and is relevant to key accounting roles. It will encourage critical thinking, reflective practice and decision-making capabilities.
Aims
The programme is primarily aimed at non-accounting and finance graduates and provides a firm grounding in the theories and practice of accounting and finance. It aims to equip and prepare students to make a major contribution to the performance of organisations in international environments.

Careers
The modules are taught using the principles of international financial reporting, offering students the potential to undertake accounting roles in many countries worldwide. It also prepares students to develop careers in business management and leadership. Topics covered include international accounting, financial management, management accounting and international financial reporting.
Entry Requirements
Applicants will need a good degree from a recognised institution.
The typical student will probably arrive from more quantitative undergraduate degree streams such as physical sciences, social sciences, computing, mathematics or business. Students from the humanities and arts sector who are particularly committed to study accountancy will also be welcome. Students are not required to have had work experience to be admitted to the programme.
Students whose first language is not English should also have IELTS 6.0 or equivalent.

In the first semester there is a residential aspect to the programme of two days (one night).
In the academic year 2011/2012 the residential is likely to be held on 20th and 21st October 2011.
The cost of the residential is currently charged as a separate item from the course fee and paid for through the University Shop. The fee for the residential is estimated at £150.00 but there are opportunities to reduce the cost by sharing a room.
