Lincoln students outside library The University of Lincoln has been rated in the top 20 universities in the UK for overall student satisfaction in the new National Student Survey 2020, published today (15 July 2020).

Lincoln was ranked 14th out of 129 mainstream universities for the proportion of final year undergraduates who agreed or strongly agreed they were satisfied with the quality of their course overall.

87 per cent of Lincoln students who completed the NSS this year agreed that overall they were satisfied with their course compared to a national average of 83 per cent.

Professor Mary Stuart, Vice Chancellor of the University of Lincoln, said: "We are delighted with the outcome of the student feedback in the National Student Survey. It illustrates that our students appreciate the quality of teaching and support available to them here at Lincoln, and just as importantly, they feel like they are part of a learning community alongside their fellow students and their tutors.
"We always aim to listen carefully to our students and engage them directly in shaping the decisions and direction of the University. Education is a collaborative process, as well as being about individual effort, and I am grateful to all our staff and students for their hard work which helps make Lincoln the special place it is to live, learn and work, particularly during such a challenging year for everyone."

In the latest NSS results, the University of Lincoln also achieved top 20 ranking positions in question categories covering learning opportunities, academic support and learning community. For the latter category, which among other questions asks students if they feel part of a community of staff and students, Lincoln placed among the top 10% of universities (12th of 129).

At subject level, Lincoln rated number one in the UK for overall student satisfaction in four subject areas: Economics (out of 74 ranking institutions); Biochemistry (out of 58); Human Geography (BA Hons Geography - out of 52); and Zoology (out of 30). On a number of Lincoln's courses, 100% of surveyed students said they were satisfied with the quality of their course overall, including in Creative Advertising, International Relations, Sociology, Chemistry, and Sport Development and Coaching.

The NSS is the biggest survey of students' views in the UK with more than 311,000 people taking part this year across universities, colleges and private providers. Final year students are asked to respond on a scale of 1-5 on whether they agree with a series of statements about their course and wider learning experience. Questions cover aspects including teaching, learning opportunities, assessment and feedback, academic support, organisation and management, learning resources (such as library and ICT) access, learning community, student voice and overall satisfaction.

The positive results follow Lincoln's top five-star rating in the prestigious QS Stars ratings system and its ranking among the top 150 young universities in the world in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2020.
