Students from the University of Lincoln will be joining others from Cuba, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, the Netherlands and the USA in an international conference on tourism.
Third-year Tourism students, Miss Mirella Clark (24), Andrea Goddard (21), Melissa Dent (21) and Gavin Muttock (21) will attend the International Tourism Students Conference in Porvoo, Finland next month.
The annual International Tourism Students Conference (ITSC) is organised by Helsinki Business Polytechnic.
The main objective for the event is to establish links between students of different countries who specialise in hotel management, tourism and leisure studies.
As part of the conference the Lincoln students have been asked to prepare a paper on the conference theme, ‘Nature-based tourism and product development’. Their paper will be presented at the conference.
The students have received support from senior lecturer Martin Knight and part-time lecturer Farhan Ahmed, both lecturers in the Department of Tourism at the university.
“The students have voluntarily offered their time in addition to their final year academic studies,” said Mr Ahmed.
“We have provided a supervisory role in regards to the organisation of the conference but the students have developed their own paper and accompanying presentation.”
As part of the trip the students will also embark on a two-day post-conference tour to St Petersburg, Russia.
The conference takes place between Wednesday 5th May and Sunday 9th May 2004.
