Kids in the county can learn how to slam dunk like Michael Jordan in a new five-week basketball coaching session starting this weekend. (Saturday 6th March)
Fun First Sports Coaching is providing out-of-school basketball coaching for the county’s youngsters every Saturday for the next five weeks at the University of Lincoln.
Inspired by coaching methods employed in the United States, Fun First aims to improve the basic sporting and life skills of six to 12-year-olds in an entertaining and fun environment.
Dave Thorpe and Ian Behagg, who have jointly set up the company, use their experience of coaching in America to enhance children’s sporting experience.
“This promises to be a superb Saturday morning for children of all abilities,” said Dave, who studied Management and Marketing at the University of Lincoln and was Vice President for Sport and Recreation at the university’s Student Union Co-operative.
Fun First uses imaginative games to appeal to all children of different ability levels – including storybook coaching where the ball can become a coconut and the children monkeys.
And with their out-of-school football coaching proving to be a success, Dave and Ian have plans to branch out into other sports such as netball and gymnastics.
Fun First currently coaches children from 28 schools in the Lincoln area. All its staff are fully qualified and have been selected to ensure their suitability to work with children.
