Leading BBC sports presenter John Inverdale is to give a lecture to Journalism students at the University of Lincoln next month.
Mr Inverdale will tell students how to become a good sports journalist when he speaks at 2pm on Wednesday 24th March in the Cargill Lecture Theatre at the Brayford Pool campus.
Students will also get plenty of opportunities to put questions to Mr Inverdale, who began his career in Lincoln with the Lincolnshire Echo.
The son of a Royal Navy dental surgeon, he gained a degree in history at Southampton University before joining the Echo as a reporter.
He moved to BBC Radio Lincolnshire in 1982 before taking up a trainee attachment in the sports department of BBC Radio 2 in 1985.
From 1988 to 1994 he worked for BBC Radio Five Live as the presenter of its flagship sports programme ‘Sport On 5’.
He has presented Five Live’s coverage of many major sporting events including Wimbledon, the Olympic Games, the football and rugby World Cups, the Ryder Cup and Euro 96.
He was named as Sony Broadcaster of the Year in 1997 for his drivetime show John Inverdale Nationwide and is now the regular presenter of Five Live’s Wednesday night soccer coverage.
His television credits include the investigative sports series ‘On The Line’, ‘Rugby Special’, the sports chat show ‘On Side’, ‘Grandstand’ and ‘Sunday Grandstand’.
