Lincoln City Ladies football team have won an FA award for their media publicity this season - and Communications students at the university are being given a share of the credit.
Five students have worked on creating a marketing strategy for the team, which won the Midland Combination title and has gained promotion to the Premiership North.
Communications students Clare Hoppett (21), Alison Moore (42), Danusia Moore (31), Zoe Radford (21) and Sharon Richardson (21) have been researching the team for their Real Client Project.
On Friday (24th May) the team’s manager, captain and public relations officer will travel down to London to collect the award in recognition for the high media profile the team has achieved this season.
They will also hear whether Lincoln City, Arsenal (champions) or Fulham (Women’s FA Cup winners) have been named women’s football team of the year by the FA.
“The students put together a marketing package and we’ve been so impressed that I’ve been in touch with all the other clubs in the country to tell them about it,” said David Hill.
“They’ve been brilliant – they’ve given us an idea of how to promote our football club as a business and they’ve given us their support by coming to watch the games at Sincil Bank.
“I’m so happy that the university has come to Lincoln – it’s good for all of us.”
Mr Hill plans to say thank you by offering season tickets to students next season at a discounted price of £7.50.
“I’m hoping that university students will be videoing our matches next season,” Mr Hill added. “And as we’ll be playing against the likes of Aston Villa, Liverpool, Sunderland and Middlesbrough I’m sure they’ll be worth watching.”
