Doctors and nurses will be singing karaoke together next week in a bid to raise much needed funds…
No, it’s not a post-budget attempt by the NHS to supplement its income, but the latest wheeze by University of Lincoln students who will be spending the next ten days raising money for two charities.
RAG (Raise And Give) Week starts tomorrow and wacky events are planned for nine days in a row before the student fund-raisers sit back to count the cash.
This year they’re aiming to raise £6,000 for ActionAid and to help North Hykeham Town Council pay for a new skatepark in the locality.
The doctors and nurses karaoke takes place next Tuesday (23rd April) in the Delph Bar on the Brayford Pool campus and is just one event in a series which will keep the money (and the beer) flowing for ten days:
Saturday 20th All-night party, Delph Bar – raffle, games and prizes
Sunday 21st Quiz night, Delph Bar
Monday 22nd Fancy dress pub crawl around Brayford Pool (starts 7pm)
Tuesday 23rd Doctors and nurses karaoke – Delph Bar 8pm
Wednesday 24th 70s-style carnival through Lincoln – starts 11am
Barbecue, Delph Bar – 2pm
Thursday 25th Live music by Bone-Box (+ support), Delph Bar (7.30pm)
Friday 26th Charity ‘school disco’ night for student magazine
Saturday 27th All-night party, Delph Bar – raffle, games and prizes
Sunday 28th Chill-out in Bar Med with chilled live music
“Last year we raised £4,000 for charity and this year we‘re going for a 50 per cent increase,” said co-organiser Steve Medway.
“We’re very grateful for the support we’ve had from our sponsors – Toni & Guy, the Lincoln Co-op and Bar Med.”
