UNIVERSITY STAFF RACE FOR LIFE
University staff are busy training for Hull’s Race for Life in the city centre on 17th June to raise money for the Imperial Cancer Research Fund.
Staff in various departments at the University of Lincolnshire & Humberside’s Cottingham Road campus are running in memory of colleagues who have suffered or who are suffering from cancer.
Not all of them are experienced runners - some staff having entered the race for several years running and some having no experience at all.
“This is the first time I’ve entered and although it’s a challenge it’s also enjoyable,” said Jill Smithson, international office administrator. “There’s definitely a team spirit and we’ve managed to motivate each other.”
Finance officer Kathy Poskitt said the most important thing was the money raised: “This is my fourth race and supporting the Imperial Cancer Research Fund is worth every penny we raise. An hour of my time may help save the life of another.”
Quality officer Zoe Dalton adds: “Besides the fact that that we’re raising money for charity, it’s a great day out. There’s a brilliant atmosphere and it’s a real sense of achievement for everyone involved.”
Race For Life is a national series of 5km fundraising walks and runs, which raises money for research into cancers that affect women.
